Decoding an ancient computerA group of scientists from the U.K. and Greece led by Mike Edmunds,
an astronomer from the University of Cardiff,
has unlocked a code more ancient and mysterious than those found in Foucault's Pendulum or The Da Vinci Code.
The team has deciphered the Antikythera Mechanism, an ancient computer named for the Greek island where it was discovered.
The top image is the main fragment of the original bronze mechanism. Below is the scientists' computer-generated re-creation.

Alien in Custody of U.S.MilitaryThis photo allegedly depicts an alien survivor of a UFOcrash in the custody of two USMilitary Policemen.
This picture was originally obtained from a U.S. soldier that was stationed in Weisbaden, Germany in the late 1940s.
It remains unclear exactly how the GI came into possession of this photo. Also unknown are the identities of the two MPs, the location of the base where the picture is purportedly taken, and the exact nature of the breathing apparatus worn by the alien.
On May 22, 1950, an anonymous individual gave the original photograph to Agent John Quinn of the New Orleans FBI Field Office.
The informant claimed to have purchased the photo for $1.00 from another individual and was turning it over to the U.S. government because it showed that a "man from Mars" was in the United States.
Crashed Flying Nave in Russia – 1987
In the beginning of August 1987, five soldiers of the Leningrad Military District went to the North Karelia region on a special mission,
and were required to guard an object of unknown origin. It measured 4 meters long, 4 meters wide, and 2.5 meters high.
The nave from outer space was found on the territory of another military unit near the town of Vyborg.
The object had neither doors nor hatches, and all attempts to open its hull were unsuccessful.
The military attempted to break parts off the disc, however, they were only able to remove some rods from the stern.
By the end of September 1987, the object had mysteriously disappeared without a trace from the hangar where it was kept.

A high-res '4D' vision of the human body.
Researchers at the University of Calgary Faculty of Medicine spent six years developing a computerized system, called Caveman, that produces larger-than-life 4D images of the human body.
The system can show how the passage of time--the fourth dimension--affects the body systems being studied.

Green light for portable projectors
An essential element of portable video projectors is the laser diode, which projects the video image at sufficient brightness onto a screen or other flat surface.
Glass and ceramics specialist Corning is developing a green laser diode that will take up only about 1 cubic centimeter of space and work in projectors that
will put out 10 to 20 lumens of brightness--equivalent to what an LCD monitor gives off--
to project an image that measures 9 to 12 inches diagonally.

Motorola's new cell phones June15, 2007 11:23 AM PDT
The Razr 2 is scheduled for release in Europe (as the GSM-compatible V9) in July and sometime later in the United States (as the CDMA-compatible V9m). The external screen of the phone will feature touch-screen controls for the phone's music player.
We'll have to wait for the launch of the new version of the Motorola Q handheld, the Q 9. Its release date in the U.S. has not yet been announced.
Jeremy Dale, a Motorola vice president, helps present the company's phones, including the Q, the Z8, the Rokr Z6 and the Ming.
